Description: Tufted erect perennials.
Leaves with ligule a rim of short hairs; blade flat or inrolled, glabrous.
Inflorescence a short panicle, usually bearing 5–10 spikelets.
Spikelets disarticulating above the glumes and between the lemmas, with 8–14 bisexual florets. Glumes glabrous, awnless, unequal. Lemmas similar to the glumes, 3-toothed; callus hairy.
