Description: Herb, parts with little or no onion- or garlic-like odour when crushed; bulb solitary, bulblets present.
Leaves flat.
Inflorescence umbellate, lacking bulbils; scape terete, hollow, sometimes solid in part. Tepals united at base in short tube, 1-veined. Stamens attached to segments just above base of perianth; filaments linear, slightly broader at base. Ovules 4–12 per loculus; style terminal; stigma entire.
Capsule ovate; seeds many, angled.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 20 species, America. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
