Description: Shrubs or small trees.
Leaves opposite or in whorls of 3 or 4.
Inflorescences terminal, corymbose cymes. Corolla cylindrical below, funnel-shaped above, the throat open, with 5 scales; lobes overlapping in bud, spreading. Anthers adhering to the stigma, with appendage. Disc absent.
Follicles united until just before dehiscence; seeds numerous, comose.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 2 spp., Medit. region to Japan. Aust.: 1 sp. (naturalized).
