Description: Annual herbs; hairs stiff.
Leaves alternate, sessile.
Inflorescence terminal, of 1 or more monochasial cymes; flowers sessile, bracteate. Sepals shortly fused at the base. Corolla actinomorphic, cylindrical with hairs both inside and out. Stamens inserted towards the base of the tube; anthers on very short filaments with a minute appendage. Ovary 4-lobed; style as long as stamens; stigma 2-lobed.
Mericarps beaked, outer surface smooth, inner surface tuberculate, splitting from a low, broad gynobase.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 1 species Mediterranean region. Australia: 1 species (naturalised).
