Description: Annual herbs with cobwebby non-glandular hairs; stems terete.
Leaves basal or alternate, entire, sessile.
Heads compound, terminal, with general involucre of scarious or coloured bracts; partial heads minute, each subtended by a scarious bract, with 1–9 florets and 2–5 involucral bracts. Florets tubular, bisexual, 3- or 5-toothed. Anthers with basal tail and subulate apical appendage. Style branches flattened; truncate, with tufts of hairs or dilated papillose apices.
Achenes subterete, smooth, ± hairy; pappus 1-seriate, consisting of simple or plumose bristles, a hyaline scale or absent.
Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 10 species, endemic Australia. Australia: all states except Tas.
