Description: Annual or short-lived perennial spreading herbs, covered with stellate and/or simple hairs.
Leaves lobed, petiolate.
Flowers solitary, axillary, pedunculate. Epicalyx segments 3, free. Sepals 5, fused at the base. Staminal column c. as long as the styles; anthers c. 20. Ovary c. 20-locular; styles as many as loculi, fused at the base.
Fruit a loculicidal capsule; carpels with 2 superposed seeds separated by an incomplete horizontal septum.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 1 species, South America. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
