Description: Perennial herbs or shrubs.
Leaves alternate, 3-foliolate; stipulate; stipels absent.
Flowers in axillary or terminal pedunculate racemes or umbels; bracts caducous. Calyx 5-toothed, weakly 2-lipped. Standard ovate or obovate; keel incurved. Stamens monodelphous, sheath split on upper side; anthers alternately long and basifixed and short and dorsifixed. Style glabrous.
Pods ± oblong, dehiscent; seeds without aril.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 100 species, mostly S. Africa. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
