Description: Erect to spreading or bushy shrubs; branchlets scabrous to pubescent.
Leaves ovate or oblong, usually discolorous, with few parallel veins, and with mucronate or aristate tip; margins ± entire; petiolate.
Flowers 1–9 together, sometimes more, in terminal and upper axillary inflorescences with bud-like rudiment, each flower pedicellate with a subtending bract and 2 bracteoles remote from the sepals. Bracts, bracteoles and the 5 sepals with ciliolate margins. Corolla tube urceolate to cylindrical, hairy inside above the middle; lobes triangular, valvate in bud, later erect to spreading, glabrous to villous inside. Stamens with filaments short, terete, inserted at the throat; anthers half-exserted or visible between the erect lobe bases. Nectary annular. Ovary 3–9-locular, with 1 ovule per loculus; style cylindrical, papillose or pubescent, long or short; stigma small, lobed.
Fruit a drupe, with pulpy mesocarp and bony endocarp.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 6 species, endemic Australia. Australia: all States except N.T.
