Description: Trees or shrubs, stems usually without spines.
Leaves alternate, bipinnate, petiole often with gland on upper side; pinnae several; pinnules numerous.
Inflorescences axillary, globose heads, pedunculate; often most abundant near end of branches. Flowers numerous, mostly bisexual, whitish or yellowish. Flowers 5-merous. Calyx 5-lobed. Petals 5. Stamens 10, exserted. Ovary stipitate.
Pod stipitate, broad-linear, flat, dehiscent; seeds usually >10, mostly obovate, brown, transverse or oblique.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 50 species, tropical America. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
