Common Name: Hare's Tail Grass
Description: Tufted, softly hairy annuals.
Leaves with ligule a membranous rim; blade rolled in bud, flat.
Inflorescence a dense paniculate head, woolly, bristling with slender awns.
Spikelets laterally compressed, densely overlapping, disarticulating above the glumes; 1 bisexual floret. Glumes equal, 1–3-nerved, tapering into a plumose awn-point, sparsely hairy. Lemma shorter than glumes, 5-nerved with 2 short terminal awns and a longer dorsal awn. Palea 2-keeled, 2-nerved, apex 2-lobed.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 1 species, southern Europe. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
