Description: Climbing or trailing annual herbs, monoecious, pilose or pubescent. Tendrils 2-branched.
Leaves simple, toothed; petiole with 2 raised glands near apex. Male and female flowers solitary. Female hypanthium shorter than male. Corolla deeply 5-lobed or of 5 free petals. Stamens 2. Female flowers with 3 staminodes. Ovary villous.
Fruit green, pubescent; seeds many, compressed.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 6 species, mainly tropical & subtropical regions. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
