Description: Shrubs or small trees, mostly leafless; branches and branchlets rigid, terete, angular or winged.
Leaves alternate, usually reduced to minute scales at nodes or occasionally a few 1-foliolate leaves present.
Flowers in terminal or lateral spikes or racemes or scattered along the branches; bracts and bracteoles small and scale-like, often caducous, bracteoles usually at the base of the calyx tube. Calyx tube very short, teeth valvate, the upper pair sometimes broader. Petals usually shorter than the calyx, shortly clawed; standard circular or reniform, apex emarginate; wings oblong; keel ± straight, broader than the wings. Stamens free. Ovary pubescent, sessile or stipitate; ovules usually 2; style subulate, incurved with a small terminal stigma.
Pod sessile or stipitate, ovate or oblong, flat or turgid; seeds without aril.
Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 40 species, endemic Australia. Australia: all States except S.A.
The occurrence ofJ. sternbergiana Huegel ex Benth. [J. clarkii F. Muell.] in N.S.W. is dubious.
