Description: Annual or perennial herbs or small shrubs, glabrous to hairy with septate hairs and often small glandular hairs.
Leaves cauline, alternate, entire to variously lobed and divided, sessile.
Heads terminal or axillary, solitary, held above foliage on long scapes; involucral bracts herbaceous, imbricate in several unequal series, glabrous or glandular, reflexed after flowering; receptacle naked, flat to slightly convex, pitted. Ray florets in several series, female, fertile, ligulate. Disc florets numerous, bisexual, fertile or sterile, tubular, 5-toothed. Anthers obtuse at the base. Style branches linear, papillose.
Achenes flattened, smooth, narrowed into a filiform beak below the pappus; pappus of fine, minutely barbellate bristles.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 4 species, endemic Australia. Australia: N.S.W., N.T., S.A., W.A.; 3 species in NSW
Within Astereae, lxiochlamys is readily distinguished from other Australian members by the smooth, beaked achenes and persistent pappus.
