Description: Herb with garlic odour when crushed; bulb solitary, bulblets absent; roots fleshy.
Leaves flat.
Inflorescence of solitary flowers, lacking bulbils; scape hollow. Tepals fused at base to form a tube, lobes stellate. Stamens in 2 whorls; filaments linear. Ovules many per loculus; style terminal; stigma slightly 3-lobed.
Capsule cylindrical; seeds many, angled.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 10 species, South America. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
