Description: Twining herbaceous perennials.
Leaves opposite, palmately lobed or rarely unlobed, broad-toothed. Male inflorescence paniculate; female inflorescence spicate, flowers clustered with subtending bracts overlapping one another.
Fruiting calyx and achenes strongly resinous-aromatic.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 7 species, northern temperate regions. Australia: 1 species (naturalized): W.A., S.A., N.S.W., Tas. and doubtfully naturalised Vic..
