Description: Deciduous trees.
Leaves alternate, usually glabrous, 3-veined from base of lamina; long-petioled.
Inflorescences terminal and axillary, cymose, often forming large leafy panicles. Flowers bisexual, 5-merous. Hypanthium fused to ovary. Sepals c. as long as petals. Clusters of filamentous hairs at inner base of sepals. Anthers 5; filaments longer than the anthers. Disc absent. Ovary superior, 2–4-locular; style usually 3-branched.
Fruit indehiscent, peduncles succulent.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 2 species, China, Korea & Japan. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
