Description: Erect annual or perennial herbs.
Leaves alternate, pinnatifid, toothed or lobed.
Heads ovoid or campanulate, solitary or in panicles; involucral bracts numerous, inner bracts longest; receptacle with bristles between florets. Florets all tubular, bisexual, 5-toothed.
Achenes obovoid, asymmetric with pappus obliquely inserted, glabrous; pappus of several plumose bristles united in a ring at base, with a few outer short bristles, sometimes on one side only or very small.
