Description: Deciduous or semi-deciduous trees.
Leaves opposite, palmately compound, usually with 3 or 5 leaflets, often with dendritic and/or stellate hairs.
Flowers often in terminally clustered cymes; calyx campanulate to cupular, 5-dentate; corolla tubular-campanulate, predominantly yellow or pink.
Capsule long and narrow, sparsely to densely hairy.
Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 30 species, Central and South America, frequently cultivated as ornamental trees with their large showy flowers; Australia: 2 species sparingly naturalised in New South Wales.
Some species previously included in Tabebuia; also related to Roseodendron. Source of timber and medicinal products.
