Description: Perennial shrubs or subshrubs, lacking tubercle-based hairs but often with glandular hairs.
Leaves alternate, entire or toothed.
Inflorescence terminal, flowers solitary or in cymes, bracts few or lacking. Corolla actinomorphic, rotate, blue or white; tube very short. Anthers exserted, narrow-ovoid with a long, rarely short, terminal appendage, cohering into a tube and borne on short, free filaments. Ovary conical, 2–4-locular with 1 ovule per loculus; style terminal, simple; stigma minute.
Fruit a leathery drupe with 1 or 2 pyrenes.
Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 18 species, endemic Australia. Australia: all mainland States.
