Description: Trees, monoecious, new growth hairy.
Leaves alternate, paripinnate; leaflets alternate to ± opposite, margins usually entire.
Inflorescences axillary or ramiflorous, panicles, racemes or thyrses. Flowers unisexual. Calyx lobes 5, in 2 whorls, unequal. Petals 5, usually clawed, often crested. Stamens 6–8, exserted, filaments pilose. Disc fleshy. Ovary 3-locular, 3-angled; 1 ovule per loculus.
Fruit a capsule, ± obcordate, with 3 compressed wing-like lobes; valves spreading after dehiscence; seeds ellipsoid, aril thin, tailed, ± enclosing seed.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 78 species, Malesia, Australia, Pacific islands. Australia: 5 species (3 species endemic), Qld, N.S.W.
