Description: Erect annuals.
Leaves petiolate or sessile, not articulate; nectaries absent; ocrea brown, truncate, entire, hyaline, not ciliate on upper margin.
Flowers bisexual, heterostylous, in slender panicles. Perianth segments 5, not enlarging in fruit. Stamens 8; anthers versatile. Style trifid, long and slender; stigmas small, capitate, smooth.
Achene triquetrous, may be winged, much exceeding perianth.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 15 species, temperate Asia. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
