Description: Dioecious mat-forming perennials; stems much-branched, rooting at the nodes.
Leaves alternate, crowded, obovate to spathulate, base broad and overlapping, apex recurved and spreading.
Heads terminal, mostly solitary, sessile. Outer involucral bracts scarious, webby at the base, papery white at the very tip. Inner bracts glabrous, with conspicuous spreading laminae. Staminate heads bisexual but rarely setting seed. Female heads with outer fertile filiform female florets, and tubular inner bisexual florets with sterile stamens, usually setting seed.
Achenes ± terete, with appressed hairs; pappus not persistent, of slightly coherent barbellate bristles.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 4 species, endemic Australia. Australia: alpine and subalpine areas of N.S.W., Vic., Tas.
