Description: Shrubs or trees, terminal buds sticky-resinous.
Leaves opposite, simple or pinnate; stipules small, interpetiolar, shed early.
Flowers solitary or a few clustered together in upper axils, actinomorphic, bisexual. Sepals usually 4, coherent at the tips and falling as a calyptra. Petals 4. Stamens numerous, filaments slender, anthers versatile, Ovary superior, carpels 4–14, fused except for the styles.
Fruit ± woody, a septicidal capsule topped by persistent styles; seeds few, winged.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 6 species, Australia & Chile. Australia: 4 species (endemic), 1 species Qld, 1 species N.S.W. & Vic., 2 species Tas.
