Description: Mostly climbing shrubs.
Leaves alternate with brown to reddish translucent dots or streaks in lamina.
Flowers terminal or axillary, in racemes or panicles; mostly 4- or 5-merous. Calyx deeply lobed. Petals free or shortly fused.
Fruit a drupe; 1-seeded.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 130 species, tropical & subtropical, Africa, Madagascar, eastern Asia to Pacific islands. Australia: 2 species, Qld, N.S.W.
Formerly in Myrsinaceae.
