Description: Small herbs, either creeping on mud or aquatic.
Leaves opposite or whorled.
Flowers usually solitary, minute. Sepals mostly 3 or 4, membranous. Petals 3 or 4.
Capsule membranous.
Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 10 species, cosmopolitan. Australia: 1 species (endemic).
