Description: Annual herbs, apparently not gland-dotted.
Leaves opposite, simple, sessile, joined by ridge across at nodes.
Inflorescences spike-like racemes, flowers single in axils of leaf-like bracts; bracteoles absent. Calyx tubular, 5-angled, 5-toothed. Corolla tube narrow, symmetrical at base, neither swollen nor spurred, without a palate; lobes 5, minute. Stamens 2; filaments not spurred; anthers joined, 1-locular; staminodes absent. Stigma exserted from corolla, with 2 terete equal lobes, receptive throughout.
Capsule loculicidal, leaving the septa attached to the 2 valves, included in calyx; seeds many, not winged, reticulate.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 2 species, endemic Australia. Australia: 2 species, endemic.
