Description: Climber, dioecious; with underground tuber. Stems and often petioles with recurved prickles.
Leaves peltate, palmately veined.
Flowers in axillary or terminal , cymose or a raceme of cymese, unisexual. Male flowers with sepals 6 in 2 whorls; petals 6. Filaments of stamens united into a slender column but separating at apex; anthers partly joined. Female flowers with sepals and petals 6.
Drupes compressed laterally; seeds broadyly horseshoe-shaped, with distinctive markings.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 1 species; endemic to eastern Australia.
