Description: Prostrate, perennial herbs.
Leaves opposite, often clustered on short side branches; stipules interpetiolar, entire or ciliate.
Flowers solitary, usually axillary, bisexual, 5-merous. Calyx tubular, 5-lobed, persistent in fruit. Corolla tube funnel-shaped; lobes usually 2- or 3-toothed. Stamens 5, attached towards apex of corolla tube. Ovary 2-locular; ovules several per loculus; style with 2 filiform stigmas.
Fruit a capsule, crowned by calyx tube.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 10 species, Indomalesia, Australia. Australia: c. 7 species (6 species endemic), Qld, N.S.W., N.T., S.A., W.A.
