Description: Woody climbers.
Leaves alternate.
Flowers unisexual or bisexual, sessile, in spikes arranged in terminal or axillary panicles. Bracts small and papery. Perianth segments 5, free. Stamens 5, filaments united at the base. Ovary superior, 1-locular; styles 3.
Fruit a berry, 1-locular, many-seeded.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 12 species, Madagascar, Malesia & Australia. Australia: 2 species, Qld, N.S.W.
