Description: Shrubs, glabrous or with simple hairs, unarmed.
Leaves alternate, simple, margins entire [or toothed].
Inflorescences axillary, bearing a single flower and a few basal leaves or bracts. Flowers bisexual. Sepals 5, free. Petals 5, imbricate, persistent in fruit. Stamens 10, free but with contiguous or imbricate filaments, pyramidally arranged and incurved over the ovary. Carpels 5, basally fused, lacking a sterile apex; styles fused, arising subterminally on the carpels; stigma globose; ovules 2 in each carpel.
Fruit of 1–5 cocci; cocci not transversely ridged, with rounded apices; seeds released forcibly from dehiscing cocci, shiny, brown.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 3 species, endemic Australia. Australia: N.S.W., Vic., W.A.
