Description: Trees or shrubs, indumentum of T-shaped hairs.
Leaves alternate, simple, margins entire or few-toothed; stipules absent.
Inflorescences terminal, mostly racemose, sometimes reduced and flowers ± clustered. Flowers actinomorphic, bisexual, 4–6-merous. Sepals mostly fused in lower half or rarely free. Petals free or rarely fused, with a membranous scale at base. Stamens same number as and slightly shorter than the petals; filaments free; anthers 2-locular, dehiscing by longitudinal slits. Disc present. Ovary inferior, 1–4-locular, ovule solitary in each loculus.
Fruit a drupe, usually 1-locular; 1-seeded.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 6 species, Australia, New Zealand, Polynesia, Rapa I. Australia: 2 species, N.S.W (1 species confined to LHI).
