Description: Monoecious perennial herbs; rhizome creeping. Culms simple or branched. Male and female inflorescences on the same culm, but differently arranged. Male spikelets terminal, solitary, several-flowered. Female spikelets axillary, solitary, 1-flowered, enclosed in the axils of sheathing floral bracts near the base of the culm. Male tepals 6; stamens 3. Female tepals 6; ovary 1-locular; style undivided.
Fruit a hard, bony, indehiscent nut.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 1 species, endemic Australia. Australia: Qld, N.S.W.
