Description: Woody climbers.
Leaves opposite, domatia present on lower surface; stipules interpetiolar, ± sheathing, acuminate.
Flowers in umbels, clusters or cymes, terminal and solitary or paniculate; bisexual. Calyx tube truncate or obscurely toothed. Corolla tube usually cylindrical, 4- or 5-lobed, valvate in bud. Stamens inserted ± in tube; anthers exserted. Ovary 2-locular; ovules 2 per loculus; style filiform, 2-lobed.
Fruit a drupe with 4 distinct 1-seeded pyrenes.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 15 species, tropical regions. Australia: 3 species (endemic), Qld, N.S.W.
