Description: Trees or shrubs, usually dioecious.
Leaves alternate, entire or toothed, pinnately veined.
Flowers small, in terminal racemes; females solitary, males clustered together. Perianth of 3 or 4 segments. Male flowers with numerous stamens on a central disc. Female flowers with short styles, free or united at base.
Capsule 3-lobed.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 80 species, Madagascar, India, Malesia, Australia. Australia: 4 species, Qld, N.S.W.
