Description: Weak to woody climbers, tendrils 2- to several-branched, sometimes apices with adhesive discs.
Leaves palmately or pedately compound; leaflets 3–12, margins toothed to crenate. Cymes leaf-opposed, mostly long-peduncled.
Flowers bisexual, 4-merous. Calyx almost truncate. Petals free. Disc cupular, fused to base of ovary. Ovary 2-locular; 2 ovules in each loculus; style terete; stigma small.
Berries 2–4-seeded.
Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 30 species, Madagascar, Malesia, Australia, New Caledonia. Australia: 2 species (1 species endemic), W.A., Qld, N.S.W.
Most Australian species previously included in Cayratia and now placed in the segregate genus Causonis.
