Description: Tufted annuals, erect or spreading; culms smooth, slender.
Ligule membranous.
Inflorescence a stiff, 1-sided loose to dense panicle, branched in the lower part, the branches short and stiff. Spikelets on short, thick pedicels appressed to 1 side of the axis, many-flowered, disarticulating above the glumes and between the lemmas. Glumes unequal, persistent, 3–5-nerved. Lemmas obtuse, rounded on the back, 3–5-nerved.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 2 spp., Eurasia. Aust.: 1 sp. (naturalized).
