Description: Small annual or perennial herbs, usually procumbent or prostrate
Leaves opposite, petiolate, crenate-serrate.
Inflorescences with flower heads solitary or in small dense clusters, radiate. About five involucral bracts. Receptacle with flat or concave paleae. Ray florets female, small, yellow, ligule 3-lobed; disc florets bisexual, 4-merous, yellow.
Achenes obconical, compressed,lacking wings. Pappus of two awns and usually 2 or 3 short scales.
Distribution and occurrence: World 2-5 species native to the Americas (Texas to Guatemala and Argentina) and West Indies; NSW 1 species naturalised.
