Description: Submerged attached perennials. Submerged leaves opposite or whorled, dissected, sessile or shortly petiolate. Floating leaves few or absent early, lamina rhombic to elliptic, entire, peltate.
Flowers floating, solitary, axillary. Perianth segments 6, free, in 2 whorls. Stamens 3–6. Carpels commonly 2–4.
Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 7 species, America. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
