Description: Perennial herbs, often aquatic, stoloniferous, glabrous.
Leaves pinnate with toothed or lobed leaflets or 3–4-pinnate when submerged; petiole sheathing.
Inflorescence terminal and axillary or often leaf-opposed compound umbel; bracts narrow; rays few spreading; bracteoles conspicuous; pedicels spreading. Flowers bisexual, white. Sepals minute, subulate. Petals obovate with narrow inflexed apex. Stylopodium conical.
Fruit ± circular, laterally compressed; carpophore split to base; mericarps with 5 slender ribs.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 2 species, Northern Hemisphere, Africa. Australia: 1 species (naturalized).
