Description: Trees, monoecious; branchlets hairy.
Leaves alternate, paripinnate; leaflets opposite to alternate, margins entire, domatia usually present.
Inflorescences usually axillary, racemose or paniculate, cymes. Flowers unisexual. Calyx cupular, deeply 5-lobed. Petals 5, usually clawed; scales crestless. Disc complete. Stamens 6–8, filaments filiform, hairy. Ovary 2- or 3-locular, unlobed or 2- or 3-lobed; style short.
Fruit a capsule, either unlobed or 1–3-lobed, 2-valved, loculicidally [or irregularly] dehiscent; pericarp thin or fleshy; valves crustaceous when dried; aril thinly fleshy, usually enclosing seed.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 25 species, Philipp., Indon., New Caledonia, New Guinea, Australia. Australia: 10 species (8 species endemic), Qld., N.S.W., N.T.
