Description: Trees, evergreen, with indumentum of simple hairs.
Leaves alternate, paripinnate.
Inflorescences axillary, thyrses. Flowers bisexual, 4- or 5- merous. Calyx short, 4- or 5-lobed. Petals usually 5, free. Stamens 10–12, staminal tube cylindrical, apex with short appendages between the anthers; anthers inserted within throat of tube, partly exserted. Disc annular, often thick in male flowers. Ovary 2–4-locular; loculi with 1 ovule.
Fruit usually a 2- or 3-valved loculicidal capsule; seed 1 per loculus, arillate.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 1 or 2 species, E Malesia to western Pacific. Australia: 1 species (native).
