Description: Erect, tufted or shortly rhizomatous perennial with cane-like stems.
Leaves with ligule a ciliate rim; blade convolute, narrow, tapering into a fine tip.
Inflorescence an open panicle with few spikelets.
Spikelets large, pedicellate, pendulous, rachilla disarticulating above the glumes and prolonged as a bristle; 1 bisexual floret. Glumes linear, papery at maturity. Lemma cylindrical, densely hairy, with 3 rigid awns, the central much longer and more robust than the 2 laterals; callus pointed, hairy.
