Description: Trees, glabrous.
Leaves opposite, venation obvious, oil glands numerous, containing strongly aniseed-scented oil, petiolate.
Inflorescences terminal or axillary, paniculate. Flowers 4- or 5-merous. Sepals ± equal, triangular, persistent in fruit. Petals longer than sepals, free. Stamens numerous in 1–2 rows opposite the sepals but in 2–3 rows opposite the petals; anthers dorsifixed. Ovary half-inferior, 2-locular, summit flat, level with the hypanthium; ovules 6 or 7 on axile placentas; stigma stout at base and tapering to the narrow stigma.
Fruit dry, indehiscent, summit flat, surrounded by the spreading, persistent sepals; seed usually only 1 per fruit.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 1 sp., endemic Aust.
