Description: Herbs or subshrubs.
Alternate, 1-foliate; stipules, striate scarious; stipellate.
Inflorescences terminal racemes; bracts simple, caducous. Calyx tube short, upper 2 teeth mostly fused. Standard obovate to spathulate, not distinctly clawed; wings oblong, usually joined to the middle of the keel; keel obtuse. Stamens 9 united, 1 free; anthers uniform. Ovary shortly stipitate, with several ovules; style inflexed or incurved.
Pod transversely jointed, separating into 1-seeded, turgid articles; articles 1–8, indehiscent; seeds not arillate.
Distribution and occurrence: World: c. 30 species, tropics and subtropics. Australia: 9 species (6 endemic or native), WA, NT, Qld, NSW.
