Description: Perennial herb with creeping rhizomes.
Leaves basal and cauline, alternate, deeply pinnatisect to entire.
Heads solitary, on stout leafy glabrous scapes, cylindrical; involucral bracts 3–5-seriate, unequal, inner longer and more membranous, reflexed in fruit; receptacle flat, naked or with a few minute hairs, pitted. Florets all ligulate, bisexual, fertile; corolla tube sparsely hairy above. Anthers sagittate at base, orange, apical appendage triangular and dark. Style branches terete, papillose.
Achenes flask-shaped, constricted at apex, compressed, smooth, margins with broad flat wings; each face with 3 prominent ribs, sometimes becoming secondary ribs; pappus in many rows, of free barbellate bristles and persistent cottony hairs.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 1 species, endemic Australia. Australia: 1 species, endemic.
