Description: Trees or shrubs.
Leaves alternate, simple, margins toothed, often with gland-tipped teeth; stipules absent.
Inflorescences terminal or axillary, paniculate or corymbose. Flowers actinomorphic, bisexual, 4–7-merous. Sepals fused in lower half. Petals free or rarely fused. Stamens 5–7; filaments free; anthers 2-locular, dehiscing by longitudinal slits, introrse. Disc present. Ovary superior, 4–5-locular; ovules numerous.
Fruit a capsule or berry.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 3 genera, 12 species, Australia, Mauritius New Zealand, Papuasia. Australia: 2 genera, 2-3 species, Qld, N.S.W., Tas.
