Family Argophyllaceae
Description: Trees or shrubs, indumentum of T-shaped hairs.
Leaves alternate, simple, margins entire or few-toothed; stipules absent.
Inflorescences terminal or axillary, mostly racemose, sometimes reduced and flowers ± clustered. Flowers actinomorphic, bisexual, 4–6-merous. Sepals mostly fused in lower half or rarely free. Petals free or rarely fused, with a membranous scale at base. Stamens same number as and slightly shorter than the petals; filaments free; anthers 2-locular, dehiscing by longitudinal slits. Disc present. Ovary inferior or half-inferior, 1–5-locular, ovules 1–many.
Fruit drupaceous or capsular, 1–5-locular; seeds 1-many.
Distribution and occurrence: World: 2 genus, 17 species, Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia, Polynesia, Rapa I. Australia: 2 genera, 5 species, Qld, N.S.W
